365: Cow Appreciation Day

July 9 is Cow Appreciation Day. It was a day created by Chik-Fil-A in an attempt to get people to avoid burger places today and head to Chik-Fil-A. We did not head to Chik-Fil-A but instead took a more traditional approach to appreciating cows: by visiting a cow!
Before it got too hot this morning, we headed to Parky's Farm. It's a small farm inside of Winton Woods Park. It's free to visit under 2 or for adults, so we were able to get Jude's hand stamped and off we went.
Parky's Farm has many different animals to see. We saw turkeys, chickens, goats, llamas, horses, pigs, rabbits, and cows. Jude was able to pet most of the animals in a small petting area. He was skeptical at first of the goats, but braved his fears and had fun petting them.
The main event, the cow, was not in the petting area, but you were allowed to pet him from the other side of the fence. Jude has never been close to animals other than our dogs and cats, so I was nervous how he would react. My fears were unwarranted because he loved the cow! He tracked it back and forth as it walked the fence line, pet it, and reached for it when it walked away. I think Jude appreciated the cow!
There is also a little garden area where they have bee hives up the hill from the cow. Parky's Farm also offers pony rides, wagon rides, and has a playground. It was a nice place to add into our mix of outside activities. For more information on Parky's Farm, click here.
