365: International Mud Month

June is International Mud Month. I have been waiting and waiting for Jude to be old enough to do a mud sensory activity without putting mud in his mouth. Today was not that day, so I created a taste safe mud.
To celebrate, I set up an invitation to play with taste safe mud and some dinosaurs using a couple of containers we had around the house. I knew that this activity would get messy, and it was raining too hard to go outside, so we pulled out Jude's new kid's pool. I also gave him a clean water bucket with just a little bit of soap to use as a rinse station after.
Jude had a blast. He was a little confused to start about the soapy water, but after I showed him how to rinse off the animals, he had a great time making them muddy and then cleaning them off. I can't wait to try it outside to cool down on a warm, not rainy day. This will definitely be a summer staple.
Taste Safe Mud Recipe
3 cups of flour
2 cups of white sugar
2 1/2 cups of cocoa powder
4 1/2 cups of water

Mix it all together and you're ready to play! It's not an exact science on measuring. If it's too thick, add more water. If it's too thin, add more flour.
A couple warnings. First, it is taste-safe but it does not taste good at all. I wanted Jude to be safe if he ate it but not want to eat it. Second, if you use a baby pool, it gets very slippery with the soapy water and mud mixture, make sure to keep an extra eye out for that.
