365: Houseplant Appreciation Day

January 10 is Houseplant Appreciation Day. I am not known for my green thumb, so we really only have one houseplant at home. It seemed pretty boring to just have him water the plant and be done, so we ventured out to Fern in College Hill to buy Jude his first houseplant.

We love Fern. It's an old gas station turned beautiful indoor nursery for succulents, ferns, and other houseplants. They also have beautiful pots and decorative pieces. I try to go once or twice a year if for nothing else than to gush over how beautiful nature is.

Jude is a little rough for plants, but with Aunt HahHah's watchful eye, we managed to not break any plants while we were in the store. Jude was immediately drawn to the hanging baskets and reached out in curiosity without being prompted.

We were unsure where to start, so I asked the employee what a good "baby's first plant" was. She laughed and pointed us to small houseplants. In our true autonomous nature, we allowed Jude to choose between five plants. He had a lot to say about the plants -- lunging and cooing at the ones he preferred. We paired them off against each other and ultimately went home with a beautiful green plant that looked sort of like it had leopard spots on it.

It only needs to be watered once a week, but we are going to make a big deal out of that being a Jude job. We will keep you updated in the months to come on whether Jude has a green thumb or not!
